Maasai with the Sky Above

In 100 hours of Astronomy event which was conducted in April 2009 at Sokoine University of Agriculture and it was attended by many people around and one of the participant was Maasai and he was much more excited to know about the star, nebula and moon as in their culture their grand’s has been using them to determine season, time during night and giving birth of their cows.
We were not able to understand how each of this worked out and it is closeness to reality so this might be a call for further investigation on the role of astronomy in African culture.
Therefore we have planned to find more information about Astronomy in African culture which will be obtained from the elders and Laibons (Maasai leaders).
After our Kids sky Exploration project which will be conducted on August 2009 in Monduli district where a lot of Maasai live. The need to extend this project is to create a sense of awareness to kids about the ways in which their grandparents understood astronomy in their days and other people around the World about Astronomy in African Culture.
From my little understanding from my grandfather there are a lot to be investigated concerning this. We call for interested people to bear with us so that this could succeed.
